Angel Dugard is the eldest daughter of Jaycee Dugard, born after her mother was raped by her captor when she was just 13 years old. She, her mother and sister became famous after Jaycee published her book “A Stolen Life – A Memoir”, based on her experiences as a prisoner of Phillip Garrido.
Angel Dugard was born following rape
Angel Dugard was born in August 1994 to Jaycee, a 13-year-old mother pregnant with her captor Phillip Garrido.. Although Garrido is technically Angel’s father, his relationship with Jaycee was that of prisoner and kidnapper.
Angel’s mother was allegedly kidnapped by Garrido when she was just 11 years old. He then raped and abused her for years while she was in prison. After her pregnancy with Angel, Jaycee was only given painkillers and shown a few birthing videos before having to give birth alone.
Angel grew up in a very traumatic environment due to the circumstances of his birth. She did not have the opportunity to attend formal school and was educated at home by her mother.
Angel’s mother was kidnapped at a bus stop
An 11-year-old girl was reported missing from a bus stop near Lake Tahoe in 1991.. Although it was not initially revealed who kidnapped her, it was later revealed that she was kidnapped by a criminal named Phillip Garrido. Garrido’s case was not the first. He had a disgusting criminal past.
Before Dugard’s case, he had already spent 15 years in prison for harassment. He allegedly raped women for eight hours in a rented storage container. He also married his childhood friend Christine Murphy, whom he kidnapped after she threatened to leave him due to his abusive behavior.
Phillip, a kidnapper, serial rapist, pedophile and hebephile, was later classified as a “sexual deviant and chronic drug addict” by a 1976 court ruling.
Angel’s mother finally released after 18 years
In 2009, the Dugards were finally rescued. It all started when Phillip showed up on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley with his daughters Angel and Starlet. Phillip’s behavior and activities were shown to be quite unusual, causing the college police to become suspicious when they began interacting with him.
When they began their investigation, it was discovered that he was a convicted sex offender and on probation. Additionally, officers later discovered that Phillip, who claimed the children he attended at college were his daughters, never had a daughter, according to his previous documents presented at his previous sentencing.
This led to further investigation, which resulted in Phillip’s surrender on August 26, 2009. He was ultimately convicted of one count of kidnapping and thirteen counts of sexual assault, earning him a sentence of 431 years in prison. However, his wife, also involved in the kidnapping, was sentenced to 36 years in prison.
When asked why Jaycee never attempted to escape from prison, she cited physical abuse and mental manipulation. She said Phillip convinced her he would kidnap other girls if she left, which she didn’t want.
What is Angel Dugard doing these days?
Angel has only been living a normal life for a little over a year.. After being rescued from the kidnapper, she had to undergo numerous counseling sessions to overcome the trauma she, her sister and her mother had experienced. She currently leads a happy but reserved life.
