Becky Hammon is a retired professional basketball player and current assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs NBA team. She was born on March 11, 1977, in Rapid City, South Dakota and grew up in a family of athletes. Her father was a high school basketball coach and her mother was a state champion hurdler. Hammon attended Colorado State University, where she played college basketball for the Rams from 1995 to 1999. During her time there, she set numerous records and became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,740 points. Additionally, Hammon was named the WAC Mountain Division Player of the Year twice and was a three-time First Team All-WAC selection.
After graduating, Hammon went undrafted in the 1999 WNBA draft, but was eventually signed by the New York Liberty as a free agent. She played for the Liberty for eight seasons, was named an All-Star selection six times and became one of the best point guards in the league. In 2007, she was traded to the San Antonio Silver Stars (now Las Vegas Aces), where she played until her retirement in 2014.
Throughout his career, Hammon has demonstrated remarkable skills and leadership on the field. She is considered one of the greatest players in WNBA history, ranking in the top ten in career points, assists and steals.
