The husband of Belinda Carlisle and American singer Belinda Jo Carlisle was born on August 17, 1958, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, the United States of America.
Carlisle was born to Joanne Thompson and Harold Carlisle. She happens to be the first of seven children; three brothers and three sisters.
She was named Johnny Belinda after her mother’s favorite movie (1948). Carlisle claimed she lived in poverty for most of her childhood after her father abandoned the family when she was five.
She remembers wearing “about two outfits” growing up. Carlisle claimed that although his father was not religious, his mother was quite religious. Walt Kurczeski, who Carlisle said was an alcoholic and with whom she had a turbulent relationship, was later remarried by her mother.
From Simi Valley to Reseda and back until Carlisle moved to Burbank at age seven, the family moved frequently during his youth. Carlisle first mentioned his interest in music at the age of eleven. He has cited the Beach Boys, Cat Stevens, the Stylistics and the Animals as his early musical influences.
While Carlisle was still a teenager, the family moved again, this time to Thousand Oaks, California. Carlisle attended Colina Junior High School in Thousand Oaks, where she played as a substitute for the boys’ basketball team, and then Newbury Park High School, where she was a cheerleader.
At the age of 18, after graduating from high school, Carlisle began working as a photocopier at the Hilton Hotels Corporation in Los Angeles.
While taking night classes, she attended beauty school, but left after the first semester. Carlisle left home at the age of 19 to pursue a career in music.
