He gained notoriety for his appearance with Shy Glizzy on GoldLink’s 2016 single “Crew,” which was certified 5 Platinum by the RIAA and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
His singles “Wasting Time” with Drake and The Neptunes, “Gravity” with DJ Dahi featuring Tyler, the Creator and “Mercedes” all charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021. Wasteland, Faiyaz’s second album, debuted at number two on the Billboard. Hot 100 Billboard 200 chart.
When Faiyaz was 12, he started writing songs. Faiyaz explained that it was understandable that his parents were not always supportive of his musical goals as he was “always distracted by his love for music”.
In 2014, Faiyaz began releasing his avant-garde music on SoundCloud. He has since moved from his hometown of Columbia, Maryland to Charlotte, North Carolina, and finally to Los Angeles, California, where he continues his music career.
On January 19, 2015, he released “Allure”, his first song. On June 1, 2016, Faiyaz released “Invite Me”, the lead track from his debut EP.
On September 19, 2016, one day before his 21st birthday, he released the EP AM Paradox. It received positive reviews from music critics.
Faiyaz founded the group Sonder in October 2016 with music producers Dpat and Atu. The group’s first single titled “Too Fast” was released on October 25. The song “Crew” featured rapper GoldLink along with Faiyaz and rapper Shy Glizzy.
Sonder’s debut EP, “Into”, was released on January 26, 2017 and earned them the title of “Artist of the Month” for January 2017. The EP landed at number 23 on Complex’s list of “Best Albums of 2017 (so far)”.
Faiyaz was featured on GoldLink’s 2017 remix of “Crew” alongside Shy Glizzy and Gucci Mane.
Faiyaz appeared on the track “Demonz (Interlude)” from Juice Wrld’s second studio album, Death Race for Love in 2019.
