Bryson DeChambeau, born September 16, 1993, is an American professional golfer currently playing in the LIV Golf League. He has won eight PGA Tour titles, including a major championship and a US Open title in 2020.

As an amateur, Bryson DeChambeau became the fifth player in history to win both the NCAA Division I championship and the US Open in the same year. Winning a U.S. amateur championship made him only the third player to win an Open event, behind Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, and the sixth to win two U.S. Opens.

Bryson DeChambeau is known for his analytical and scientific approach to sports and has earned the nickname “The Scientist.” His clubs are custom designed to his specifications, with thicker than usual grips and the same length irons. In 2020, he became the longest-reigning driver on the PGA Tour.

Bryson DeChambeau was born in Modesto, California to John Howard Aldrich DeChambeau and Janet Louise Druffel. At the age of seven, he moved to Clovis, east of Fresno. He attended Clovis East High School and won the California State Junior Championship in 2010 at the age of 16. He graduated in 2012 and received a scholarship to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, majoring in physics.

In June 2015, Bryson DeChambeau became the first SMU Mustang to win the NCAA individual championship, winning by one stroke with a score of 280 (-8). In August, he won the U.S. Amateur title, beating Derek Bird 7-6 in the 36-hole final. He won the NCAA and National Amateur titles in the same year with Jack Nicklaus (1961), Phil Mickelson (1990), Tiger Woods (1996) and Ryan Moore (2004). Bryson DeChambeau made his PGA Tour debut as an amateur at the FedEx St. Jude Classic near Memphis, Tennessee in June 2015, finishing in 45th place. A few days later, he made his professional debut at RBC Heritage in South Carolina, earning more than $259,000 and placing fourth. His decision to turn professional caused him to lose his exemption in the United States.

The Open was held at Oakmont and the British Open at Royal Troon, but Bryson DeChambeau qualified for the United States. He finished the season opener in 15th place, earning over $152,000 and rising to 148th in the world rankings. The previous week’s victory secured Bryson DeChambeau a spot in the 2017 Open Championship, where he missed the cut after rounds of 76-77 (+13). On June 3, 2018, Bryson DeChambeau won the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, in a sudden-death playoff over Kyle Stanley and An Byeong-hun after all three regulation matches finished tied at -15. On November 4, 2018, Bryson DeChambeau won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. The victory was worth $1,260,000 in prize money.

In March 2021, Bryson DeChambeau won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida. He shot a 5-under 71 in the final round to defeat Lee Westwood by one shot. In August 2021, Bryson DeChambeau shot 27-under par at the BMW Championship in Owings Mills, Maryland, but lost on the sixth hole of a sudden-death playoff to Patrick Cantlay.

In February 2022, Bryson DeChambeau released a statement dedicating himself to the PGA Tour amid speculation that he would join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour. However, on June 8, The Daily Telegraph reported that Bryson DeChambeau would be joining LIV Golf. On June 10, LIV Golf confirmed that Bryson DeChambeau had joined the tour. After joining LIV Golf, Rocket Mortgage ended its sponsorship deal with Bryson DeChambeau.
