George Floyd Children – George Perry Floyd Jr. is a native African-American who was murdered by a police officer during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Floyd was born on October 14, 1973, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, United States of America.
When Floyd was two years old after his parents’ divorce, Floyd’s mother moved the children to the Cuney Homes public housing complex, often known as “The Bricks”, in Houston’s Third Ward, a neighborhood in predominantly African-American.
Floyd, known as Big Floyd as a child, stood over 6’1″ in middle school and viewed sports as a way to enrich his life.


Floyd attended Ryan Middle School and graduated from Yates high school in 1993. He was a power forward on the Yates basketball team and served as co-captain. As a tight end on the football team, he played in the 1992 Texas state final with his team.
Floyd was the first of his siblings to attend college. He spent two years at South Florida Community College on a football scholarship while also playing basketball.
In 1995, he changed schools and enrolled at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he also played basketball.
After meeting in the mid-1990s, Floyd became friends with Stephen Jackson, a future NBA star who was nicknamed his “twin” because of their striking resemblance.
He was 198 cm (6 ft 6 in) tall and 193 cm (6 ft 4 in) tall at the time of his autopsy. At that time, he weighed 223 pounds (101 kg).

In 1995, Floyd returned to Houston after graduating from college in Kingsville, Texas, where he worked as an automotive customizer and participated in club basketball.
He began performing as a rapper in the hip hop group Screwed Up Click in 1994 under the pseudonym Big Floyd. Floyd was sentenced to eight prison terms between 1997 and 2005 for various crimes, including drug use, robbery, and trespassing.
Based solely on the testimony of police officer Gerald Goines, Floyd was convicted in 2004 of possessing less than half a gram of crack cocaine in one of these cases.
Due to Goines’ involvement in the Harding Street raid and the subsequent investigation into a pattern of evidence tampering, the Harris County, Texas, district attorney requested a posthumous pardon for Floyd’s conviction in April 2021 due to Goines’ lack of credibility.


In 2007, Floyd was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon. According to investigators, Floyd and five other men broke into the apartment posing as water department employees. He then pointed a gun at a woman’s stomach while searching for valuables to steal.
Three months later, Floyd was arrested during a traffic stop and the robbery victims recognized him from a photo lineup. As part of a plea deal, Floyd was sentenced to five years in prison in 2009 and was released on parole in January 2013.
After his release, Floyd became involved with the Christian church and ministry Resurrection Houston, where he mentored young men and spread anti-violence messages on social media.
In 2014, Floyd traveled to Minneapolis to start over and find a job. After arriving, he quickly completed a 90-day rehabilitation program at Turning Point in north Minneapolis.
Floyd admitted he needed a job and began working as a security guard at the Harbor Light Center, a Salvation Army homeless shelter.
Floyd was arrested by Minneapolis police in May 2019 after his unregistered vehicle was stopped during a traffic stop. Floyd had a bottle of painkillers with him.


Floyd was a security guard at the El Nuevo Rodeo Club in 2019, while off-duty police officer Derek Chauvin also worked there.
Floyd started a second job as a delivery driver in 2020 while continuing to work part-time as a security guard at nightclub Conga Latin Bistro.
After receiving a ticket for operating a vehicle without a valid commercial license and being involved in a minor collision, he was fired from his job as a delivery driver in January.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Minnesota, he looked for a new job, and when the club closed in March due to pandemic regulations, his financial situation deteriorated.
Floyd was also hospitalized in March after taking too many medications. He contracted COVID-19 in April but quickly made a full recovery.
Who are George Floyd’s children?
At the time of his death, George Floyd had five children. He has a son named Quincy Mason Floyd and two daughters named Connie Mason and Gianna Floyd. We currently do not know about his other two children.
