Chris Rock’s Parents, American actor, comedian, and film producer, Chris Rock was born on February 7, 1965, in Andrews, South Carolina in the United States of America.

In the 2008 episode of Black American Lives 2 on PBS, Rock’s family background was explored. According to a DNA test, he is of Cameroonian descent, specifically from the Udeme (Ouldémé) people of northern Cameroon.

Jules César Tingman, Rock’s great-great-grandfather, was held as a slave for 21 years before joining the United States Colored Troops to fight in the American Civil War.

Rock’s maternal grandfather moved from South Carolina to New York in the 1940s to work as a taxi driver and pastor.

Rock was born to Rosalie Tingman and Julius Rock. He has the same parents as his six brothers and sisters; six brothers and one sister.

His parents moved to the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn shortly after his birth. A few years later, they moved and lived in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a working-class neighborhood. His mother Rosalie worked as a teacher and social worker for the mentally handicapped and his father Julius, who died in 1988 following an operation for a gastric ulcer, was a truck driver and newspaper deliveryman.
