Six people were killed and hundreds more injured when Darrell Edward Brooks drove through a Christmas parade in 2021. On Wednesday, a jury found him responsible for the tragedy and convicted him of numerous crimes.
The panel deliberated for two hours Tuesday before reconvening Wednesday morning. It took the jury just over three hours to find Brooks responsible for the attack on all 76 counts against him.

On November 21, 2021, Brooks’ red Ford Blazer SUV crashed into the Christmas parade procession, killing at least six people and injuring at least 61 others. Police and others responded to help the injured along a four-block stretch and at the same time began searching for the driver.
Before the verdicts were announced, people dressed in blue Waukesha Strong sweatshirts gathered outside the courtroom with bowed heads and silent prayers.
Waukesha County District Judge Jennifer Dorow scheduled a hearing Monday to decide whether to set a sentencing date, and she said she would allow victims to submit their statements via Zoom.
However, Judge Jennifer Dorow sentenced Brooks to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, for each of six counts of first-degree intentional homicide with a dangerous weapon.
