Ed Sheeran, brother of Ed Sheeran, English singer and songwriter, was born on February 17, 1991 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
He and his family moved from Hebden Bridge to Framlingham in Suffolk in December 1995, where he attended Brandeston Hall private preparatory school before moving to Thomas Mills High School, also in Framlingham.
Matthew, his older brother, is a professional composer. John and Imogen Sheeran are a couple from London. According to Sheeran, his father comes from a “very big” Catholic family and his paternal grandparents are Irish.
Imogen is a former cultural journalist turned jewelry designer, while John is an art curator and lecturer. From 1990 to 2010, his parents ran the independent art consultancy Sheeran Lock.
Sheeran began singing in a community choir at age four, learned guitar at age 11, and began writing songs while attending Thomas Mills High School in Framingham.
He also played the cello when he was younger. A 2004 school report card called him a “natural artist” and his classmates voted him the person “most likely to become famous.”
As a young man he was accepted into the National Youth Theater in London. In 2007, after a successful audition, he took part in Youth Music Theater UK’s production of Frankenstein – A New Musical in Plymouth.
He supports Access to Music, where he studied artist development, and Youth Music Theater UK, now known as British Youth Music Theatre.

Sheeran started writing songs around the age of eleven. In early 2011, Sheeran independently released No. 5 Collaborations Project, an extended play. The following year, he signed with Asylum Records.
The UK charts were dominated by Sheeran’s debut album + (pronounced “more”). It was released in September 2011. It included “The A Team”, his first number one song. At the 2012 Brit Awards, Sheeran won Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.
Upon its release in June 2014, Sheeran’s second studio album (pronounced “multiply”) reached the top of the world charts. It was ranked the second best-selling album of 2015 worldwide.

The same week, he made history by becoming the first musician to have two songs enter the American Top 10. Breaking the record for top 10 singles from an album in the UK in March 2017, Sheeran has had ten singles in the top 10 on the UK Singles Chart.
“Perfect”, his fourth single from , reached number one in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom, spending the 2017 Christmas period there.
He was named Global Artist of the Year after achieving the most global sales in 2017. His fourth studio album “No.6 Collaborations Project”, released in 2019, debuted at the top of the charts of most major labels worldwide and produced the UK #1 singles “I Don’t Care”, “Beautiful People” and “Take”. In major markets of 2021, his fifth studio album = (pronounced “same”) is topping the charts. Sheeran is one of the world’s best-selling musicians, having sold over 150 million records worldwide.
Two of his albums are on the list of the best-selling albums in British chart history and he has 101 million RIAA certified units in the United States. He achieved the greatest combined success on the UK album and singles charts in the 2010s, according to the Official Charts Company, who named him Artist of the Decade in December 2019.
He was ranked as the second most streamed musician on Spotify in the world this decade. His tour, which began in March 2017, reached its peak in terms of revenue in August 2019.
