American professional baseball player and outfielder Whit Merrifield plays for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball.
He previously represented the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball.
Merrifield started the 2017 season with Omaha, but was recalled after nine games in April and played the remainder of the season with Kansas City.
In 2019, he led the Major League in batting average (.302/.348/.463), slugging average (681), singles (139) and triples (10).
He was selected by the MLB All-Stars on September 10, 2018, during the 2018 MLB Japan All-Star Series.
With the 2020 Kansas City Royals, Merrifield hit .282 in 60 games with nine home runs and 30 RBIs.
Although Whitley David Merrifield grew up in Mocksville, North Carolina, a town about an hour north of Charlotte, he was born in Florence, South Carolina, where he also attended high school.
He played baseball at the University of South Carolina, where he played all over the field to help the Gamecocks win the 2010 College World Series.
He was selected by the Royals in the 9th round of this year’s draft, just ahead of the Mets’ selected pitcher, Jacob deGrom.
