Famous American actress and transgender Laverne Cox was born on May 29, 1972, in Mobile, Alabama, United States of America.
She is known for her advocacy for the LGBTQi community in the United States. Laverne was the first transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category.
She was also the first person to be nominated for an Emmy Award since composer Angela Morley in 1990. Her portrayal of Sophia Burset in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black helped her rise to fame.
Cox co-produced and co-hosted the VH1 makeover television series TRANSform Me and participated as a contestant on the first season of the VH1 reality series I Want to Work for Diddy. Cox received GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award in April 2014 in recognition of her advocacy for the transgender community.
