Iam Tongi Parents: Meet Lillie and Rodney Guy: Iam Tongi is an 18-year-old singer who became the winner of American Idol 2023.

Tongi is from Kahuku, a town on O’ahu, Hawaii, and is of Tongan, Samoan, and Irish descent.

He graduated from Decatur High School in Federal Way, Washington, near Seattle, where he and his family moved three years ago.

He won the hearts of the judges during his first audition when he sang his heart out in the first round and impressed the audience with his soulful singing style.

During the American Idol 2023 grand finale, Iam Tongi delivered powerful renditions of Keith Urban’s “Making Memories of Us” and “Cool Down.”

He also sang a sentimental tribute to his late father called “I’ll See You”. Tongi also teamed up with James Blunt to perform “Monsters.”

During the grand finale, the three remaining competitors; Iam Tongi, Megan Danielle and Colin Stough delighted the audience with solo and duo performances with renowned artists.

This premier event welcomed many visitors. Among others, Keith Urban, Kylie Minogue, Ellie Goulding, Lionel Richie, TLC, REO Speedwagon, Pitbull and Lil Jon.

After a nearly four-hour show filled with live performances, Iam Tongi, 18, of Kahuku, won the title of “American Idol.”

His victory at American Idol 2023 on Sunday, May 21 makes him the first Hawaiian to win “American Idol.”

He is also the first Pacific Islander to win the singing competition, according to the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund.

After this victory and a recording contract, Tongi is now ready to create his own music. This season of American Idol is over, but another season is officially planned for 2024.

my name is Tongi was born in Kahuku, Hawaii, to his parents; Rodney Guy (father) and Lillie N. Rodney Tongi (mother).

His father, who was also a musician, recognized Iam’s talent and encouraged his passion for singing. Sadly, his father (Rodney) passed away on December 28, 2021.
