He started his career very early, at the age of three he could play basketball “for hours” and at six he was playing in a ten-year-old league. At the age of 13, he began playing pickup games against top high school and college players.

Jamal Murray attended Grand River Collegiate Institute in Kitchener and later transferred to Orangeville Prep in Orangeville, Ontario. In 2013, he was named MVP of the Jordan Brand Classic International Game, becoming the second Canadian to win the award after Duane Notice.
