The siblings of Jimmy Garoppolo and American football quarterback James Richard Garoppolo were born on November 2, 1991, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Garoppolo played quarterback and linebacker for the Mustangs football team while he was a student at Rolling Meadows High School in Rolling Meadows.
During his junior and senior seasons, he started 19 games at quarterback, totaling 3,136 yards and 25 touchdowns.
In addition to football, Garoppolo also played baseball for Rolling Meadows High School. Garoppolo, a two-star prospect, chose to play football at Eastern Illinois over Illinois State and Montana State.

Garoppolo, who was represented by Don Yee, was considered one of the top quarterback prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft. He was selected 62nd overall by the New England Patriots in the second round of the draft of the 2014 NFL.
He was the highest-drafted quarterback the Patriots have selected since Drew Bledsoe was selected first overall in 1993. He was also the first player from the Football Championship Subdivision to be drafted in 2014.
In exchange for an $853,744 signing bonus, Garoppolo and the Patriots agreed to a four-year contract worth $3,483,898 (including $1,103,744 guaranteed).


In Week 4 of 2014, when the Patriots lost 41-14 on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs, Garoppolo made his regular season debut.
He led the Patriots on a scoring drive and completed a 13-yard ball on his first play to tight end Rob Gronkowski for his first passing touchdown of the season.
With a passer rating of 147.3, he completed six of his last seven passes for 70 yards and a score. Garoppolo made five relief appearances in games in 2015. He completed just one of his four attempts for a season passer rating of 39.6 and six yards.
Garoppolo was named the starter for the 2016 season opener by head coach Bill Belichick after starting quarterback Tom Brady was suspended four games by the league for Deflategate. Garoppolo was expected to replace Brady in all four games.
Garoppolo was the subject of several trade speculations over the summer, with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns being the most frequently mentioned suitors. Ultimately, no deal was reached and Garoppolo started the season with the Patriots.
Garoppolo finished Week 3 with 251 passing yards and two touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs before having to leave the game with a left knee injury.


It later emerged that he had torn his cruciate ligament, forcing him to end his season early. The 49ers finished the season with a 4-12 record without Garoppolo.
Garoppolo overcame his injury just in time for the 49ers’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He completed 166 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception in the 31-17 victory.
In the 49ers’ 20-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, Garoppolo threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns.
The following week against the New York Jets, Garoppolo threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game after the first half with a sprained ankle. Nick Mullens took over in this match.
Before making his big return in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins, he missed the next two games against the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.


Trey Lance, the third overall pick, would not start the 2021 season in place of Jimmy Garoppolo. In a 41-33 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 1, Garoppolo rushed for 314 yards and a touchdown while fumbling the ball.
Garoppolo lost a fumble and threw for 254 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 30-28 Week 3 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Trey Lance, a former backup quarterback, was selected as the starter for the 2022 season ahead of Garoppolo during training camp.
In order to keep Garoppolo on the team, both sides agreed on a one-year contract. He received a fully guaranteed base salary of $6.5 million as part of the deal.
Garoppolo agreed to a three-year, $67.5 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders on March 17, 2023.
