Jon Stewart was born on November 28, 1962 and began his career as a stand-up comedian, then moved to television as host of Short Attention Span Theater for Comedy Central.
He later hosted “You Wrote It, You Watch It” and then “The Jon Stewart Show,” both on MTV, until “The Jon Stewart Show” was revamped, canceled by the network and moved to syndication.
After hosting The Daily Show from 1999 to 2015, where he also worked as a writer and co-executive producer, he has also directed several film projects.
The Daily Show grew in popularity, winning 22 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards, and being nominated for news and journalism awards during its era.
In the mid-1990s, Stewart founded his own production company, Busboy Productions, named the company in honor of his previous job as a bus boy.
He is co-author of America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction and Earth (The Book): A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race.
Jon Steward has also appeared in several films including Big Daddy, Death To Smoochy, Since You’ve Been Gone and The Faculty.
Since leaving The Daily Show, he has kept a low profile in entertainment industry circles, but has used his fame and voice to become a strong advocate for the health benefits of 11th first responders September and veterans.
In 2019, he received the New York City Bronze Medal for his “tireless advocacy, inspiration and leadership that contributed to the permanent approval of the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund Act” .
He now hosts The Problem with Jon Stewart, premiering on Apple TV+ in September 2021, and in 2022 he received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Jon Stewart hosted the 78th and 80th Academy Awards.
