Two Failed Marriages by Tom Skerritt
The East of the Mountains star married young artist Charlotte R. Shanks and had a child at the age of 21. From 1957 to 1972, Skerritt was married to his first wife. The actor went through some difficult times during the last years of his marriage. His wife suffered from mental illness and he struggled to care for their three children. Colin Skerritt, the actor’s eldest son, remains estranged from him. Skerritt is accused of not being a current parent.
His second eldest daughter, Erin, a well-known poet, sympathized with her father and said she knew what he was going through. He always brought his children to the set and tried to take care of them since their mother was sick, but he didn’t have time. Skerritt was therefore a single parent until his second marriage to Susan Ellen Aran. The couple was married for 15 years, from 1977 to 1992. Skerritt and Susan have a son named Colin. In 1980, the couple bought a house on Lopez Island and opened a guesthouse there. Skerritt’s marriage to Susan did not last, however. They divorced in 1992. The reason for their divorce has never been revealed.
