Newton graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2015. She was a member of the Notre Dame High School girls’ golf team; she helped the school’s golf team win three championships.
She frequently made shots in the 1970s, and her lowest score in an 18-hole tournament was 69. She also set a school record with a nine-hole match of five under par (-5) while playing with a handicap of plus 2 (+ ) played 2).
She had planned to compete in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open, but after being offered the lead role in “Paranormal Activity 4,” she was forced to withdraw from the sectional qualifiers.
To focus on her acting career, she deferred her studies at USC. She considered joining the University of Southern California women’s golf team as a “replacement.”

Newton began her career at the age of four and made her television debut on the soap opera All My Children, where she played Colby Marian Chandler from 2001 to 2004. She also starred in two short films, Abbie Down East (2002) and Bun-Bun (2003).
Newton was offered Louise Brooks, a character on the CBS comedy series Gary Unmarried, in 2008. She attended Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles after her family moved there when she was twelve.
For her work on Gary Unmarried, Newton won two Young Artist Awards in 2010: one for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series, Comedy and one for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series, Comedy or Drama. In the 2011 film Bad Teacher, Newton played Chase Rubin-Rossi.
In 2012’s Paranormal Activity 4, the fourth installment in the series, she played Alex, the title character, and was honored for it at the 34th Young Artist Awards. From season 10, she plays the recurring character Claire Novak on Supernatural.
In 2017, Newton appeared in Big Little Lies, an HBO series based on the book of the same name by Liane Moriarty. She also played Angela Hayes in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Ivy Burns in Ben Is Back.
In the 2019 hit Pokémon Detective Pikachu, an animated film based on the video game of the same name, Newton plays Lucy. She also played Allie, the main character, in the May 10, 2019 Netflix mystery drama series The Society.
In 2020, she played a young girl who swaps bodies with a serial killer in Christopher Landon’s highly acclaimed horror comedy, “Freaky.”
She starred in Ian Samuels’ 2021 film, The Map of Small Perfect Things. She will play Cassie Lang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
