Katy Perry’s Parents: Meet Keith and Mary
Katy Perry was raised by her Christian parents Mary Christine and Maurice Keith Hudson. His mother was a minister and his father was a Pentecostal minister who struggled with drug addiction and left the family when Perry was a child.
Perry spoke about his religious upbringing and how it influenced his music and his life. She grew up in a strict household and was not allowed to listen to secular music or watch TV shows like The Simpsons. However, she was allowed to sing in church, and through her experiences in gospel music, she discovered her love for singing and performing.
Despite her parents’ religious beliefs, Perry’s mother supported her daughter’s musical career. In fact, Mary Hudson even wrote a book called Joyful Parent, Joyful Child: A Spiritual Guide to Parenting, which includes stories and parenting advice from Katy Perry.
Perry also credits his parents for instilling in him values such as hard work and determination. His father’s struggle with addiction and eventual recovery also had a significant impact on his life and music. In her song “By the Grace of God,” Perry talks about overcoming depression and finding strength in faith, which she says was inspired by her father’s experience with addiction.
