Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman Kristopher Joseph Pierre Irwin Letang was born on April 24, 1987 in Montreal, Canada.

Letang spent his early years in the city until, at the age of four, he moved to the suburb of Sainte-Julie, where he spent the rest of his youth.

Letang is a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) of the National Hockey League. He played junior ice hockey for three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he was selected 62nd overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Letang won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009, his second full NHL season. In 2016, the Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks, making him a two-time Stanley Cup champion. In 2017, the Penguins beat the Nashville Predators to make him a three-time Stanley Cup champion.

He represented Canada internationally at the U18 and U20 levels, winning back-to-back gold medals at the World Junior Championships in 2006 and 2007.

Letang made his international debut for Canada at the 2005 U18 World Cup in the Czech Republic, during his junior season. The pond

won a silver medal with four points in six matches, losing to the United States in the championship match.

Letang competed at the World Junior Championships the following two years, winning gold in 2006 and 2007 as part of a five-year Canadian championship series. In Vancouver, where Canada was the host nation, he helped his country win its first gold medal. The following year, he returned to Sweden as team captain and scored six points in six games.

Along with Jonathan Toews and Carey Price, Letang was selected to the tournament’s All-Star team.

Letang got his arm tattooed during his Olympic vacation. The part of the tattoo is dedicated to his grandmother and according to him, she has always been there for him.

The lower part of the tattoo and the guitar part are said to be dedicated to Letang’s best friend and former roommate, Luc Bourdon, who played for the Vancouver Canucks and tragically died in a motorcycle accident on May 29, 2008.

During the 2008 NHL Draft, Canucks management wore guitar pins to commemorate Bourdon because he was an avid guitarist.
