When Lidia and her husband Felice opened Buonavia Restaurant in Queens, she worked as a hostess before beginning her training as a kitchen assistant the following year.

When Lidia’s father died in 1981, the Bastianich family sold Buonavia and Secondo and bought a house in Manhattan that already housed a restaurant.
