She also played secret agent Kate Del’Amico in the short-lived series Under Cover and Brett Robin in the series Robin’s Hoods.
Purl appeared several times in the international touring production of Seven Deadly Sins – Four Deadly Sinners. Marc Sinden staged it in November 2007 at the Princess Grace Theater in Monte-Carlo as part of Sinden’s British Theater Season in Monaco.
Purl made her debut as Amanda in a 2008 production of Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” at the Cleveland Play House in Cleveland, Ohio.
After leaving Matlock, Purl pursued a career in jazz music, releasing several albums including Out of This World – Live.
She was born to Jewish parents, Raymond Charles Arthur Purl, a chemical industry executive, and Marshelleline “Marsheie” Purl. Mara is his sister.
Béatrice Saville, his grandmother, founded the Actors’ Equity Association. When she was five, Purl and her family moved to Japan, where her father worked for Nippon Unicar.
