Ronstadt was born to Gilbert Ronstadt and Ruth Mary Copeman Ronstadt. She has the same parents as her sister Gretchen Ronstadt and her two brothers; Michael J. Ronstadt and Peter Ronstadt.

Ronstadt grew up on her family’s 10-acre ranch and her family was featured in Family Circle magazine in 1953.
