After the birth of their twin daughters, they married.
He was formerly married to Alejandra Amarilla, a Paraguayan filmmaker. They first met in Manhattan in 2001, when he was playing for the Dallas Mavericks. After that, they started dating and living together. Three years after their romance began, they welcomed their twin daughter and got married a year later in June 2005.
However, their relationship ended after the birth of their son on November 12, 2010. There is no definitive explanation for their divorce, however, reports suggest that he was away from home for an extended period of time and his wife’s relationship with one of his team members could be related to his which contributed to the rift.
The custody dispute is in shambles.
The couple’s divorce dragged on for a long time as Steve refused to give Alejandra any money. The bitter custody battle between her parents lasted for about five and a half years. The judge also supported her refusal to pay money because his salary was the same as hers. However, she was not convinced by this choice. She tried to resolve the issue by deciding to move to Los Angeles (LA) with her children after joining the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers in 2012 and filed a child support claim with the California courts.
However, he was against this choice because he felt that Los Angeles was not a suitable place to raise children. He also refused to pay child support for his children, claiming that their extravagant lifestyle would deprive them of any luxuries. Instead, he paid for their schooling, medical care, extracurricular activities, and custody. Their divorce was finalized in 2016 after years of trying to resolve the dispute.
