Yetunde was Lyndrea’s older sister. She previously owned a beauty salon and worked as a registered nurse. She also worked as a personal assistant to her sisters Venus and Serena Williams. In September 2003, she was shot in a hate crime and died in hospital. Yetunde was chatting with her boyfriend in his SUV, which was parked in front of a trap house at the time of the event.
Wanting to protect the crack house from gang rivals, the two men guarding the house opened fire on the SUV. At first, her partner didn’t know she had been hit. He quickly went to a relative’s house, where he called 911. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Robert Edward Maxfield was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison. However, due to his “good behavior”, he was released after 12 years in detention in 2018.
