She was born to an Argentinian father, Martin Bledel and Nanette Bledel. Alexis has the same parents as her brother Eric David Bledel, who also happens to be an actor.

Youth and career

Alexis grew up in a Spanish-speaking family and only began learning English when she started school; she identifies as Latina. She attended Baptist and Lutheran schools before graduating from St. Agnes Catholic Academy in Houston in 1999. Her mother encouraged her to participate in community theater to overcome her shyness. As a child, she appeared in local productions of Our Town and The Wizard of Oz. She was discovered at a nearby shopping center and hired as a model.
