Judd broke her leg in four places after falling on a fallen tree. She is still in intensive care in a hospital in South Africa.

The actress got lost in a remote part of the rainforest and it took her almost 55 hours to be taken to hospital for surgery.

Initially, she had to wait five hours on the forest floor, in intense pain, to receive a rescue team. It is assumed that Dr. Martin Surbeck was one of the men who helped Ashley Judd out of the rainforest. Ashley Judd and Dr. Surbeck also worked together at the Kokolopori Bonobo Research Center.

Who is Dr. Martin Surbeck?

Martin Surbeck has been an assistant professor in the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University since 2019.

He initially studied biology and zoology at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the University of Zurich. Surbeck received his doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in 2011.

Dr. Martin Surbeck’s research studies competition and cooperation between groups such as chimpanzees and bonobos, with a focus on the social organization of bonobos.

The Kokolopori Bonobo Research Centre is run by Dr. Surbeck and the Bonobo Conservation Initiative.
