Brittney Griner Siblings – Brittney Griner is an American professional basketball player for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Phoenix Mercury who is currently imprisoned in Russia.
She was a basketball player for the Baylor Lady Bears in Waco, Texas, and she is the only NCAA basketball player to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots.
Brittney Griner Youth
Griner was born in Houston and is the daughter of Raymond Griner and Sandra Griner.
His father, Raymond, is a former Harris County sheriff who served in the Vietnam War in 1968 and 1969.
Griner attended Nimitz High School in Houston and was a basketball player throughout high school. During her college years as a freshman, she openly participated in volleyball activities.
Griner began his sophomore year working with the boys’ basketball team and a Nimitz football coach to strengthen his legs and prepare to learn the dunk.
A YouTube video of his dunks was viewed more than 6.6 million times during his junior season, which led to a meeting with Shaquille O’Neal.
Griner led the Nimitz Cougars to the Texas 5A girls basketball state championship game, where Mansfield Summit High School beat them 52-43.
As a senior, Griner dunk 52 times in 32 games, including seven against Aldine High School.

Brittney Griner’s Personal Life
In the interview, she also revealed that she was bullied as a child and that working with children to raise awareness about the issue of bullying, especially against LGBT people, was very important to her.
Griner had already started working with her parents in high school, which her father did not accept gracefully, forcing her to spend her senior year under an assistant coach.
In My Skin: My Life On and Off the court, a memoir she co-wrote with Sue Hovey about bullying and self-acceptance, was published in 2014.
Brittney Griner’s love life
Griner became engaged to fellow WNBA star Glory Johnson in 2014. However, both were arrested on April 22, 2015, for assault and disorderly conduct after police started a fight between the two at their suburban home in Phoenix, Arizona. Both were slightly injured.
Despite this incident, they married the following month on May 8, 2015 in Phoenix. Griner and the love of her life, Johnson, were suspended seven games by the WNBA in 2015 after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct. Griner also had to undergo domestic violence counseling for 26 weeks.
Griner and Johnson announced on June 4, 2015, that Johnson was pregnant with twins conceived through in vitro fertilization using Johnson’s eggs.
Griner filed for annulment the next day, after less than a month of marriage, citing fraud and coercion; the repeal was rejected.
Johnson gave birth to twins 16 weeks early on October 12, 2015.
Griner was ordered to pay child support to Johnson. The couple’s divorce was finalized in June 2016.
After splitting from Johnson, she proposed to Cherelle Watson in August 2018 and the couple married in June 2019. Watson’s name was later changed to Cherelle Griner.
