Jack Byrne is the 21-year-old son of Irishman Gabriel Byrne and American actress Ellen Barkin. Jack Byrne is a member and co-founder of The Dough Rollers, a blues band formed last summer while touring with Bob Dylan.
As a young boy and teenager, Jack frequently traveled to Ireland with his father. But when he was just 12 years old, he abandoned Irish music to devote himself to the blues after receiving a book on the genre containing ten important blues records from a family member.
Around the same time, Jack acquired his first guitar, which sparked his interest in creating and performing blues, early music, country and gospel. Ellen Barkin, Jack Byrne’s mother, is an American actress and producer. She appeared in numerous films including Johnny Handsome, Sea of Love, Eddie and the Cruisers, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Tender Mercies and the 1982 comedy Diner (both 1989).
Ellen Bark made her acting debut in the 1982 comedy Diner alongside Steve Guttenberg. From 1988 to 1999, she was married to Irish actor Gabriel Byrne. Later, in 2000, Ellen married American tycoon Ronald O. Perelman. However, they divorced in 2006.
Gabriel James Byrne, Jack Byrne’s father, is also a director. Before joining the Royal Court Theater in London in 1979, he began his acting career at the Focus Theatre. Byrne’s television debut was in the Irish drama series The Riordans and its spin-off Bracken.
