Meet Michaela Coel, Husband and Kids – At the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, Coel became the first Black woman to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Movie drama special for his work on I May Destroy You.

Michaela Ewuraba Boakye-Collinson was born in East London. Her mother raised her and her sister in east London, mainly in the Hackney and Tower Hamlets areas.

She attended Catholic schools in east London and claimed to have bullied other primary school pupils.

She said she felt isolated because she was the only black student in her age group. His isolation ended with him continuing his studies at a comprehensive school.

From 2007 to 2009, Coel studied English literature and theology at the University of Birmingham.

She signed up for a Ché Walker masterclass after meeting him at open mic nights. In 2009, she changed schools and became the first black woman in five years to enroll at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

She received the Laurence Olivier scholarship, which allowed her to finance her studies. During her time at Guildhall, Coel attended the Mark Proulx Workshop at the Prima del Teatro and the Kat François Poetry Course at the Theater Royal Stratford East.

In 2006, Coel began giving open mic poetry readings in Ealing. Ché Walker, actor, playwright and director, encouraged her to apply to Guildhall after seeing her in the Hackney Empire.

Coel has performed as a poet at Wembley Arena, Bush Theatre, Nuyorican Poets Cafe and De Doelen in Rotterdam. Her stage name was Michaela The Poet.

In 2009, Coel enrolled in Talawa Theater Company’s TYPT summer school program. While still a student at Talawa, Coel appeared in the 2009 TYPT production of Krunch.
