Bats in Minecraft are the oldest inhabitants of Minecraft’s cave systems that reproduce naturally and are usually found in deep, dark corners underground.

The Bat is a flying mob that resides in the dark areas of the basement. They fly aimlessly in caves and avoid light.
Spawn
Minecraft bats appear in groups of 8 or 2 in the overworld where the light level is below 3 and below layer 63. In the Java edition, they appear in light levels of 6 or lower.
Behave
Bats are among the smallest creatures in the game and can fit through a hole one block high. They are passive creatures found in caves and do not attack other creatures.
Players can often hear them squeaking and screaming in caves. They fly aimlessly and can sometimes steal washed even by accident! One of the lesser known facts is that bats tend to fly east!
Bats often rest upside down under solid blocks, covering themselves with their wings. In this resting position, they rest and do not move. However, if a player gets too close to them, they will fly again.
drops

Bats are one of the few creatures in Minecraft that drop absolutely nothing when killed. This includes both items and EXP orbs. Therefore, killing a bat is equivalent to swinging the sword in the air.
