American child actress Mischa Barton, Mischa Anne Marsden Barton, was born on January 24, 1986 at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in Hammersmith, London.

Barton was born to an Irish mother, Nuala Quinn-Barton, a producer, and an English father, Paul Marsden Barton, a foreign exchange broker from Manchester.

She received Irish lessons from her maternal grandfather at Queen’s University, Belfast. She has two sisters: the youngest Hania and the oldest Zoé, the latter works as a lawyer in London.

According to Barton, she briefly attended St. Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith before her family moved to New York due to her father’s job when Barton was five.

She retained her British citizenship after accepting American citizenship in 2006. She is also able to obtain Irish citizenship through her mother.

After Sir Richard Attenborough directed her in Closed the Ring, Barton attended a short summer course called “Acting Shakespeare” at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in June and July 2006. In 2004, she was graduated from the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan.

Barton is a British-American actress who works in film, television and theater. She made her theater debut in Slavs! by Tony Kushner at Lincoln Center in New York. and starred in James Lapine’s Twelve Dreams.

She made her acting debut in 1996 with an appearance on the American soap opera All My Children and she played a character in the Nickelodeon animated series KaBlam! from 1996 to 1997.

She played the lead role in the drama Lawn Dogs (1997) alongside Sam Rockwell, marking her first significant acting achievement.

She made notable appearances in films such as M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller The Sixth Sense (1999) and the romantic comedy Notting Hill (1999). She also starred in the 1999 independent crime drama Pups.

In 2012, she made her return to the stage appearing in the Irish version of Steel Magnolias. She also starred alongside Martin Sheen in the 2014 film Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain.

She has received positive reviews for her performances in independent films, with Starcrossed (2014) being praised by the Los Angeles Times for “outstanding” work.

Barton was cast in The Hills: New Beginnings (2019–2021), an MTV series which is a revival of The Hills.

She was selected for an extended appearance in the relaunch of the Australian soap opera Neighbors on Amazon Freeview in 2023.
