Career of Brandon Vazquez
In preparation for the first season, Vázquez signed with Major League Soccer expansion team Atlanta United in December 2016.
Vázquez made his competitive MLS debut on April 22, 2017 against Real Salt Lake, coming on as a substitute and scoring a goal in injury time.
Tata Martino, the club’s manager during Vázquez’s first two seasons, used him as a winger rather than in his natural attacking position up front.
In those two seasons, Vázquez made 21 appearances as a reserve player and scored one goal, helping Atlanta win the 2018 MLS Cup.
On June 26, 2019, in a 3–2 loss to Toronto FC, Vázquez made his first MLS start after scoring four goals in his previous two matches.
Nashville SC selected Vázquez in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft on November 19, 2019. He was then traded to FC Cincinnati for $150,000 in targeted allocation money.
Vázquez, who previously played primarily as a substitute, finally got significant playing time in 2022 under new coach Pat Noonan. For the first time in his career, Vázquez started the season as an undisputed starter.
After two disappointing results, Cincinnati beat Orlando City SC 2-1 thanks to their double.
The second goal was a redirected header from a cross and the first goal was a well-timed finish after a well-timed cut between the centre-backs.
The following week, Vázquez scored another brace and contributed an assist in a 3–1 victory against Inter Miami. In the 24th minute, he fought for a cross and collected the ball before the goalkeeper and defenders.
Another header, which he scored as insurance, gave Cincinnati back-to-back triumphs. Brandon Vazquez has already set the record for most goals scored in a season in FC Cincinnati history.
On August 3, Vázquez was selected to replace striker Valentin Castellanos for the 2022 MLS All-Star Game. Castellanos had previously been on loan from NYCFC to Girona FC of LaLiga.
With attacking midfielder Luciano Acosta already selected for the 2022 clash against the Liga MX All-Stars, Vázquez became the second FC Cincinnati player ever selected to an MLS All-Star roster.
