Pete Edward Rose is a former professional baseball player and manager. He was born on April 14, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States of America.
From 1963 to 1986, Rose played in Major League Baseball (MLB), most notably as a member of the Cincinnati Reds team, known as the “Big Red Machine” in the 1970s, which won the National League.
He also played baseball for the Montreal Expos and the Philadelphia Phillies. He managed the Reds from 1984 to 1989, during and after his playing career.
When Rose was accused in August 1989 of betting on baseball games while managing and playing for the Reds, he was banned for life from the sport. He was also accused of betting on his own club.

From 1963 to 1986, Pete Rose played in Major League Baseball (MLB). He also played with the Expos of Montreal and the Philadelphia Phillies. He managed the Reds from 1984 to 1989, during and after his playing career.
Rose, a switch hitter, is the league’s all-time leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), singles (3,215) and strikeouts major league baseball (10,328). In addition to three batting titles, three World Series titles, a Most Valuable Player award, two Gold Gloves and the Rookie of the Year award, he also won three batting crowns.
Rose played in 17 All-Star Games at an unmatched five positions (second baseman, left fielder, right fielder, third baseman and first baseman). Rose won both Gold Gloves in 1969 and 1970 while playing in the outfield.
Rose was permanently banned from baseball in August 1989 (during his final season as manager and three years after retiring as a player) due to allegations that he had bet on baseball games while that he managed and played for the Reds. The alleged misconduct included Rose betting on his own team.
The list of “permanently ineligible” players was created in 1991 by a formal vote of the Baseball Hall of Fame after those players had already been excluded by informal consensus of voters.
The results of the investigation were made public, including Rose’s betting history on baseball. The documents had been confiscated by US federal agents from one of Rose’s employees.
