At the age of twelve, he began racing at his home track, Punta Gorda Speedway in Punta Gorda, Florida, in Late Model and Fastruck Series competition.

Even these races, held at venues such as Citrus County Speedway, Auburndale Speedway and DeSoto Speedway, had to run on a shoestring budget; This practice would continue throughout much of Chastain’s career in NASCAR’s upper divisions.

Chastain replaced Justin Marks in the No. 66 Turn One race truck in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series after Marks moved to Charlotte in mid-2011.

His first truck race included live pit stops and took place at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. He finished tenth in the competition.

Chastain won four more races, spoiled by events at Bristol Motor Speedway and Kentucky Speedway because of connections in the watermelon growing business.

Due to weather conditions, the Turn One team was unable to compete at Homestead-Miami Speedway. As a result, the team purchased start and park access for RSS Racing and competed in the entire race, finishing second to last.

In January 2013, it was announced that Chastain would represent Brad Keselowski Racing in 15 Camping World Truck Series competitions.

In September at Iowa Speedway, Chastain earned his first Truck Series pole position for the Fan Appreciation 200. James Buescher won the race after Chastain led the most laps at the green-white checkered finish.

Additionally, Chastain finished second to Erik Jones in the final race at Phoenix despite leading more than 60 laps.

Years later, Chastain claimed that his first move to BKR was an attempt to join Team Penske, although Penske and BKR did not see the situation that way.

At the 2023 Daytona 500, Chastain finished eighth to open the 2023 season. He was approached by Noah Gragson shortly after his fifth-place finish at Kansas, following a racing accident in which Gragson crashed into the exterior wall.
