Ryan Gosling’s Parents: Meet Donna Gosling and Thomas Gosling – Ryan Gosling was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario, the son of traveling paper mill salesman Thomas Ray Gosling and secretary Donna.
His parents are both French Canadians of German, English, Scottish and Irish descent. Gosling and his family were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and religion influenced every aspect of their lives, according to Gosling.
They moved around a lot because of his father’s job and Gosling lived in Cornwall, Ontario, and Burlington, Ontario.
When he was 13, his parents divorced and he and his older sister Mandi moved in with their mother, an experience Gosling credits with programming him to think like a girl.
Gosling was educated at Gladstone Public School, Cornwall College and Vocational School, and Lester B. Pearson High School. He was inspired to become an actor as a child after watching Dick Tracy.
He despised growing up, was bullied in elementary school and had no friends until he was 14 or 15 years old. In first grade, influenced by the action film First Blood, he would bring steak knives to school and throw them at other kids during recess. This incident led to his suspension.
He could not read and was tested for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but was not diagnosed and, contrary to popular belief, never took medication. For a year, his mother quit her job and homeschooled him.
Previously, Gosling lived in New York with his mixed-breed dog George. In Beverly Hills, California, he co-owns Tagine, a Moroccan restaurant.
He bought the restaurant on a whim, spent all his money on it, did all the renovations himself for a year, and now oversees the restaurant’s menus.
From 2002 to 2003, Gosling dated his Murder by Numbers co-star Sandra Bullock. From 2005 to 2007, he was in a relationship with The Notebook co-star Rachel McAdams, whom he briefly reunited with in 2008.
Some of the films he has starred in are Frankenstein and Me, Remember the Titans, The Believer, Murder by Numbers, The United States of Leland, The Place Beyond the Pines, Blade Runner 2049, The Gray Man and The Big Short.
The exact reason why Ryan Gosling stopped acting is not known, however, he gave an interview in which he stated:
“I lost all perspective on what I do. I think it’s good for me to take a break and re-evaluate why I do it and how I do it. And I think that’s probably a good way to learn more.
