The 46th Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, was born on November 16, 1985 in Helsinki, the capital of Finland.
Sanna Marin was born to Lauri Marin, who struggled with alcoholism and was therefore separated from his wife as the family’s financial situation deteriorated.
After her parents divorced, Marin’s mother was the sole provider of her financial needs and education, and they moved in with her mother’s partner.
At the age of 19, Marin graduated from Pirkkala High School (Pirkkalan Yhteislukio) in 2004. During her school years, she earned a living working in a bakery and as a cashier, earning a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in administrative sciences at the University of Tampere.
From 2010 to 2012, Sanna Marin served as the first vice-president of the Social Democratic Party, having joined the organization in 2006. She unsuccessfully sought election to the Tampere city council in 2008, but opted out. beaten again in 2012 and succeeded.
Within months, Sanna Marin became president of the city council, a position she held from 2013 to 2017. She was re-elected to the city council in 2017 and initially gained notoriety after YouTube users posted videos of her presiding over acrimonious meetings.

Sanna Marin spoke out against discrimination against Uyghurs in China’s Xinjiang province in March 2021. In her New Year’s speech in early 2022, she asserted that Finland had the choice to join NATO if it wished. Russian media and some publications claim that “Moscow was stabbed in the back.”
Despite Russian threats, Finland submitted an application for NATO membership on May 15, 2022, and on May 17, the Finnish Parliament approved the proposal by 188 votes to 188. Finland was led by Prime Minister Sanna Marin .
Sanna Marin and the Prime Minister of Ukraine also signed a bilateral framework agreement on the restoration of Ukrainian education after the Russian invasion on May 26, 2022. She welcomed the May 31 agreement by European Union leaders to to ban the import of more than 90% of Russian oil by the end of 2022 in order to reduce the dependence of European countries on Russia.
Sanna Marin was also included in the BBC’s 100 Women list, released on November 23, 2020. On December 9 of the same year, Forbes ranked her 85th on the list of the 100 most powerful women in the world.
Marin joined the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders program in 2020. She was also selected to appear on the cover of Time Magazine’s special “Time 100 Next” issue, which features 100 influential people from around the world.
