Timothy Eugene Scott, wife of Tim Scott, American businessman and politician, was born on September 19, 1965, in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Scott graduated from RB Stall High School. He attended Presbyterian College from 1983 to 1984 on a partial football scholarship.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Charleston Southern University in 1988.

Scott graduated from the Palmetto Boys State program in South Carolina, which he says influenced his decision to work in government.

Scott worked as an insurance agent and financial advisor after graduating from college. His company is Tim Scott Allstate, his insurance company.

Tim Scott’s career

Since 2013, Scott has served as South Carolina’s junior United States senator. Scott, a Republican, was chosen for the Senate seat by Gov. Nikki Haley in 2013.

After winning a special election in 2014, he retained his seat and was re-elected to a full term in 2016 and 2022.

Scott served in the United States House of Representatives for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District from 2011 to 2013 before being elected to the Senate.

Previously, he served as a member of the Charleston County Council from 1995 to 2009 and as a one-term member (2009 to 2011) of the South Carolina General Assembly. Scott worked in the financial services industry before entering politics.

Scott is the first African American to hold office in both houses of Congress and one of eleven African Americans to have served in the United States Senate.

He is the fourth Republican senator and the seventh African-American elected to the Senate.

He is the first African American senator from South Carolina, the first elected senator from the South since 1881 (four years after the end of Reconstruction), and the first African American Republican senator since Edward Brookes left office in 1979 .

According to an article from late 2022, Scott was urged by a number of senators, including John Barrasso, John Cornyn and Joni Ernst, to run for President of the United States in the 2024 election.

Scott is reportedly preparing to run for president in February 2023. He announced a “listening tour” that will begin with a Black History Month event in Charleston, South Carolina, and will then include lectures and activities in Iowa, the first state to vote in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

Along with Scott, several well-known and potential Republican candidates held simultaneous rallies in Iowa. Scott formed an exploratory committee on April 12, 2023 with the goal of possibly running for president.
