Tony Finau’s siblings, American professional golfer Milton Pouha “Tony” Finau, were born on September 14, 1989, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Finau was born to Kelepi Finau and Ravena Finau. He has six brothers and sisters; Gipper, Tevita, Pianola, Kaylene, Kelven and Heilala.
He defeated future PGA Tour player Daniel Summerhays in the 36-hole championship match to win the 2006 Utah State Amateur Championship.

Finau turned professional at age 17 and began competing on mini-tours, including the Gateway Tour, the NGA Hooters Tour, and the National Pro Tour, despite receiving basketball scholarship offers from colleges.
In 2009, Finau and his brother Gipper appeared on The Big Break on Golf Channel. Finau took second place at Big Break Disney Golf.
In 2013, Finau competed on the PGA Tour Canada and made seven cuts in eight starts. He received his Web.com Tour card in 2014 after finishing T-3 at the 2013 Web.com Tour qualifying tournament.
He won his first championship at the Stonebrae Classic in August 2014. He received his PGA Tour card for the 2014–15 season after finishing 12th in the Web.com Tour Finals and 8th overall in the regular season.
Entering the Tour Championship in 2017, Finau qualified for the first three majors of 2018, including his first appearance at the Masters.
Despite dislocating his ankle during the par 3 contest the day before the first round of the 2018 Masters, he finished in a tie for 10th place.
His previous best finish in a major was a fifth-place finish at the US Open in June 2018 after a double bogey on the 18th hole.
Finau finished sixth in the season-long 2018 PGA Tour FedEx Cup. With 11 top-10 finishes during the 2017-2018 season, he earned nearly $5,600,000.
His second places at the Safeway Open and the Northern Trust were his best of the year. Additionally, he placed T2 at the Genesis Open.
Finau lost a playoff match to Xander Schauffele at the WGC-HSBC Champions on October 28, 2018. Although he finished second, he still earned over $1,000,000 in the race.
Finau played alongside Tiger Woods, Francesco Molinari and others in the final group of the Masters tournament in April 2019. He finished the competition tied for fifth place.
Finau competed in the 2019 Presidents Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia in December as a member of the U.S. team. The American team triumphed 16:14. Finau lost his singles match on Sunday against Hideki Matsuyama 0-1-3.
Finau lost the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February 2020 in a sudden-death playoff to Webb Simpson.
Finau had a two-shot lead with two holes remaining, but Simpson closed with back-to-back birdies, forcing a move to the playoff, where Finau lost because of Simpson’s birdie on the first extra hole.
Finau had a five-week stretch at the start of 2021 in which he placed top four in each of the four competitions he entered.
He placed second at the Farmers Insurance Open, second at the Saudi International on the European Tour, fourth at the American Express, second at the Farmers Insurance Open and lost in a playoff to Max Homa at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club. in Pacific Palisades, California. Finau defeated Cameron Smith in a playoff to win the 2021 Northern Trust.
Finau competed for the United States at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin in September of that year. Finau went 1-2-0 and lost his singles match Sunday to Ian Poulter, while the American team triumphed 19-9.
Finau won the 3M Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic in July 2022, his third and fourth PGA Tour triumphs, respectively.
Finau won three and lost one of his matches to qualify for Team USA at the 2022 Presidents Cup.
Finau won the Cadence Bank Houston Open in November 2022, securing his third PGA Tour triumph of the year.
Finau won the Mexican Open in April 2023, marking his sixth PGA Tour triumph.
