The fighter has five title defenses under his belt and has defeated Max Holloway, who is highly ranked not only in the featherweight division but also in the pound-for-pound rankings, three times. There’s no better way to demonstrate your dominance than beating the number one team in your division three times.
After his impressive success at featherweight, Volkanovski believes he has earned the chance to become a two-division champion. The fighter said his next fight would be for the lightweight title and it appears the promotion won’t stand in the way of ‘The Great’ Alex Volkanovski’s ambitions.
The bigger question, however, is whether Volkanovski can handle the size of the top-tier fighters in the lightweight division. Like Volkanovski, there are many potential title contenders in the 155-pound class who are much bigger for their weight class.
