Netflix’s All of Us Are Dead essentially ends on a cliffhanger — well, almost, if you sign up for a building instead of an actual cliff. In the final moments of the South Korean zombie drama’s first season, the surviving students peer over the entrance to their school and are shocked by what they see. The audience hasn’t revealed the secret of what lies beneath, but viewers have been speculating about this and other potential developments in season 2. The series has yet to be officially renewed. Here are the four most compelling season 2 theories so far.
Cheong-san is still alive
Cheong-san initially fought alongside the main group to fend off the undead invading the school. However, he fell victim to the injury of another character, Gwi-nam. However, we never actually saw what happened to Cheong-san; all we know is that he sacrificed himself to save his companions, and when On-jo returned to the scene of his death, only his badge remained.
As is the rule in television, if you don’t see a body, the character probably didn’t die; however, Cheong-san would have had to survive the explosions set off by the government to eradicate the zombie infestation for this theory to be true.
Nam-Ra is still alive
Nam-ra, like Cheong-san, was injured by a zombie. However, she never fully turned around. She became a half, also known as a half-zombie and half-human. These entities have a humanoid appearance and enhanced physical abilities.
All of Us Are Dead director Lee Jae-gyu told Korean news site SpotTV about the halfbies: “I thought there might be a sudden situation where the zombie virus would not be infected at all. 100% because each individual’s immune system varies. Depending on the situation.” “We can collectively speak of a semi-infected person.
Due to the presence of very powerful antibodies, he is in no condition not to suffer from the disease,” he continued, also describing these infected people as “immortals”.
Nam-ra is last seen in Season 1 jumping off the top of the school building rather than running to safety with her former companions. But she should be fine: plus, Lee referred to the half-dead as “immortals.”
The government is using the virus as a weapon
Government officials raided the home of the scientist who started the zombie outbreak near the end of season 1. His original intention was to chemically enhance his timid son’s courage, but the attempt clearly failed.
The agents first go to his residence intending to steal his research, but upon arrival they discover that his wife and son have been transformed into zombies. When the government agents return to their safehouse, they bring with them the scientist’s wife and son, as well as a zombie soldier and a mixed-race student.
Does this involve them running further tests on the biology of the virus to discover a cure, or are they using science for something more sinister?
Season 2 will explore zombie survival
This is more of a confirmation than a theory. Lee explained in an interview with the Korean Herald that, if approved, All of Us Are Dead season 2 will focus more on the ghouls’ point of view. “If the first season can be seen as featuring the survival of humanity, then the second season could focus on the survival of zombies,” he said, adding that he hopes to create a second season. Move it, Netflix.
