Diana Ross is the second of six children of soldier Fred Ross and teacher Ernestine Ross. She was born on March 26, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. Ross began singing with his friends in the band The Primettes as a teenager.
They became the booming 1960s R&B and pop group The Supremes. In 1961, the group signed with Motown Records.
