Leylah Fernandez is currently one of the brightest talents on the WTA Tour and part of the young brigade leading Canadian tennis.
Leylah’s talent was first discovered during her junior years when she reached the 2019 Australian Open junior singles final and won the 2019 French Open junior singles title a few months later. She turned professional soon after and rose in the WTA rankings, entering the top 100 for the 2020 season. On August 8, 2022, the Canadian professional achieved a career ranking of 13th.
After turning professional in 2019, Leylah has already reached two WTA finals, losing and winning the 2020 Mexican Open. Monterrey Open 2021. At Grand Slam tournaments, she did not make it past the first round at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. She reached the third round of the 2020 French Open and reached the semifinals of the 2021 US Open, becoming one of the youngest teenagers to reach the final four at Flushing Meadows.

Leylah was born on September 6, 2002 in Montreal, Canada Jorge And Irene Fernández. Jorge was born in Ecuador but moved to Canada with his family when he was 4 years old. He later became a professional footballer and represented Ecuador in international matches. Her mother Irene comes from a Filipino family but was born and raised in Canada.
Jorge became Leylah’s first tennis coach and continues to coach her to this day. He began taking notes from other players’ coaches to train young Leylah in her early years. He didn’t travel with Leylah US Open 2021 but had contact with her throughout the tournament, as confirmed by the father-daughter duo.
