The recent transgender swimmer controversy Lia Thomas made headlines as their recent victory at the NCAA Championships took the world by storm. Several athletes, coaches, parents and individuals felt Thomas was awarded an unfair victory, saying she had an “inherent unfair advantage.”
Several celebrities, including Caitlyn Jenner, highlighted the injustice of the situation and denounced Thomas’ victory. Several competitors wrote a letter to the board of directors NCAA to help resolve this issue as they felt it posed a threat to women’s sport.

Lia Thomas was born in 1998 to parents Bob Thomas and Carrie Thomas. Thomas was born and raised in Austin, Texas and began swimming at just 5 years old. Thomas competed for Westlake High School in the national high school swimming championships.
She and her brother attend the University of Pennsylvania. As a sophomore, Thomas competed in the Ivy League men’s 500m, 1000m and 1650m freestyle championships. After becoming embroiled in the recent controversy, Thomas said she made the decision to feel good about herself and not win championships.
