Dave Dahl was born on January 12, 1963 in the United States of America in Portland, Oregon. At the age of nine, he started working in the family bakery. His father, James A. Dahl, founded the family bakery in 1955. As a child, he often argued with his father because he did not like working in the family bakery. As a result, he began smoking and using drugs as a teenager. He dropped out of high school in 1980. Glenn is his brother’s name.

In 2016, Dave founded the Discover African Art organization. For this organization in Clackamas, Oregon, he opened a showroom and flagship store in Portland’s Pearl District. In June 2017, the organization helped deliver grain to a village in Mali.
