MAnuel Aristides Ramrez Onelcida (Manny Ramirez) is a 50-year-old retired baseball outfielder, born May 30, 1972 in the Dominican Republic. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 19 seasons. Before spending a season in the Taiwan Chinese Professional Baseball League, he played for the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.
Manny Ramirez was one of 28 players to hit 500 career home runs and won the Silver Slugger nine times. His 29 postseason home runs are the most in MLB history and his 21 grand slams rank third all-time. Manny Ramirez also appeared in 12 All-Star Games, including a streak of 11 consecutive games beginning in 1998 that spanned his entire time with the Red Sox.

Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games in 2009 for violating baseball’s drug policy (by taking human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a female fertility drug often used in combination with anabolic steroids). In the spring of 2011, MLB notified Manny Ramirez of a second violation of its drug policy and a 100-game suspension, leading to his early retirement.
On April 8, he decided to retire rather than be suspended. Manny Ramirez requested reinstatement in September 2011 and accepted a 50-game suspension reduction in December. Manny Ramirez never played in another major league game, despite stints with foreign teams like the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics.

In the 2022 Hall of Fame election, Ramirez received only 28.9% of the votes, which is why his name is not in the Hall of Fame. For induction, players must score at least 75%. He can run for office for four more years. And even though Manny Ramirez was suspended, those salaries won’t disappear anytime soon since he will continue to be paid by his previous team until 2026, when he will be 54 years old.

In 2001, Manny married Ramirez Juliana Monterio, a Brazilian hostess. Manny Ramirez has three sons (Lucas, Manuelito and Manny Ramirez Jr.). He had Lucas Ramirez (born February 2006) and Manuelito “Manny” Ramirez (born 2003) with his wife Juliana and Manny Ramirez, Jr. (born 1995) from a previous relationship. He has lived with his family in Weston, Florida since August 2015. His son Manny Ramirez Jr. has been a player for the New Britain Bees of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball since May 2018.

Despite his unusual personality, Manny Ramirez has earned a reputation as a hard worker when it comes to punching. His intensive batting practice and hitting sessions were well known, and he was also known to often watch videos of his swings and pitches from opposing pitchers. But when he was in the batter’s box during a game, he took a very linear approach, relying on his training-induced muscle memory and pitch recognition. He had a reputation for verbally simplifying his puncher’s boxing technique to the point where he was just “seeing the ball.”
