He arrived in the United States in October 1949. Clary’s first public appearance in the United States was a French-language comedy sketch on The Ed Wynn Show in 1950.
Clary then crossed paths with Eddie Cantor and Merv Griffin. After being “closest friends” for 15 years, Clary had the opportunity to meet Natalie Cantor Metzger, Cantor’s daughter, whom he later married in 1965. Following Cantor’s introduction , Robert Clary later appeared on the Colgate Comedy Hour.
In the 1952 film Thief of Damascus, he starred alongside Paul Henreid and Lon Chaney, Jr. In 1958, he appeared as a guest on the Gisele MacKenzie Show. (CNB). On The Munsters Today, he played Louis Schecter, Lily’s acting coach, in the episode “Green Eyed Munsters”.
In 1959, he appeared as Henri Toulouse-Lautrec in a British production of Edward Chodorov’s play Monsieur Lautrec. The play ran for two weeks at the Belgrade Theater in Coventry.
Despite her criticism of the play, The Stage praised Clary for her portrayal of Lautrec as tender and moving.
Clary maintained a close relationship with fellow Hogan’s Heroes cast members Werner Klemperer, John Banner and Leon Askin after the series was canceled in 1971.

She was married twice in her life and her first husband was Joseph Louis Metzger. The marriage took place on May 6, 1937, but the divorce took place on June 11, 1946. The marriage produced one child.
After her divorce, she married again, this time to Robert Clary on May 17, 1965. The marriage lasted more than three decades. His death ended the marriage on December 11, 1997.
His parents are Eddie Cantor and Ida Tobias Cantor. She was not the only child of her parents as she has other siblings. Her siblings are Edna Cantor McHugh, Janet Cantor Gari, Marilyn Cantor Baker, and Marjorie Cantor.
