Richard Paul Astley, wife of Rick Astley and an English singer and radio presenter, was born on 6 February 1966 in Newton-le-Willows in Lancashire.
Astley’s love of music began when he joined a local church choir at the age of ten.
Astley joined various local bands while studying and played drums there, where he met guitarist David Morris.
After leaving school at the age of 16, Astley worked by day as a driver for his father’s market gardening business and performed in the evenings on the Northern club scene in bands such as FBI, which won several local talent competitions, and Give Way, which featured on covers specializing in Beatles and Shadows songs.

After graduating, Astley began working as a drummer for the soul band FBI. Three years later, he made a name for himself by joining Stock Aitken Waterman’s production team and releasing the album Whenever You Need Somebody in 1987, which sold 15.2 million copies worldwide.
Her debut single “Never Gonna Give You Up” reached number one in 25 countries and was named the best British record of 1988, winning her the Brit Award.
