For those who don’t know, Biles’ mother, Nellie Ceytano Bilesand his father, Ronald Biles, are not his biological parents, but are his parents nonetheless. Ronald is Simone’s maternal grandfather and Nellie became his wife when the duo married in 1977.
Born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, Simone is the third of four Biles siblings – Adria, Ashley and Tevin. They were all placed in foster care when she was just 2 or 3 years old and her biological mother, Shanon, suffered from alcoholism, according to USA Today.

Who is Ronald Biles?
As mentioned earlier, Ronald is Simone’s biological grandfather and the father of Simone’s biological mother, Shanon. Interestingly, he was the one who told Shanon to name her daughter Simone. He is now also Simone’s official father and legal guardian, having adopted her alongside his wife Nellie in 2003.
Before retiring, Ronald served in the Air Force, followed by a stint as an air traffic controller. Notably, he was a single father to Shanon at the time he met Nellie, but the couple went on to have two sons together: Ron Jr. and Adam.
